Members Attend NABJ’s Yearly Convention and Career Fair in San Diego

   Seven students and one advisor from the Prairie A&M University NABJ chapter embarked on a trip to San Diego on July 28-August 1 for this year’s national convention and career fair.


   Featured, were speakers from all over the journalist spectrum. From, Regina King’s press conference about the battle of AIDS in America to; Shirley Sherrod breaking news statements about the controversy surrounding her.

   An advance screening of Spike Lee’s new documentary titled “If God is Willing and Da Creek Don't Rise” was shown with an Q and A session with him afterwards. The pilot episode of NBC’s new show The Undercovers that features Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, his co-star, was also shown. Mr. Kodjoe as well as J. J. Abrams, the shows executive producers, director and co-creator, gave a brief interview after the showing.

   The convention offered seminars and workshops for any, and everything, you could possible want to know in the world of media and journalism. The career fair brought in major media outlets such as CNN, Washington Post, ESPN, and the Associated Press.

   Ending the convention was an elegant gala where top journalists and media professionals were honored for their hard work and dedication. Such as Soledad O'Brien named journalist of the year. The Philadelphia kickoff party officially ended this year’s convention and career fair.
